Why Traditional sponsorships are basically a good thing
Traditional sponsorships are a wonderful thing in themselves. It is a great gift for a child when he or she knows:
„There is someone out there who is thinking of me, supporting me and maybe even sending me a parcel.“
Many aid organisations therefore rely on traditional sponsorships, which often result in touching connections.
Imagine yourself at the same time...
There is an orphanage.
A child has arrived there, without parents, with worn-out clothes, without anyone to look after him.
One day, he observes another child in the same orphanage unpacking a parcel. It contains new clothes and something to play with. The child no longer understands the world!
The other child is just as much an orphan as he is. Why does he get this gift and I don't?
This feeling of inequality and sadness goes straight to the heart.
This is exactly what we want to avoid.
Our reasons for the sponsorship
Equal treatment instead of inequality
Individual sponsorships lead to unfairness and emotional hurt when some children receive gifts or support and others do not.
Do not create dependencies
Sponsorships create emotional or mental dependencies – both in the child („my provider“) and in the donor („I am saving a child“) – which we want to avoid.
Support for all children at the same time
We do not care for selected children individually, but for all of them together – providing meals, clothing, education, medical assistance and a safe home.
